# Connect an iPhone to a nearby Mac

> Pair Zuse for iPhone directly with a Mac, verify its identity, and confirm the connection.

Connect an iPhone directly to the Mac that owns your projects. This path works on the local network and does not require a Zuse account.

## Applicability [#applicability]

Use this guide when the iPhone and Mac are nearby. For access away from the Mac's network, use [hosted remote access](/how-to/remote-hosted-access.md). The Mac remains the execution environment in both cases.

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

* Zuse is open on the Mac.
* Zuse for iPhone is installed.
* Wi-Fi is enabled on both devices.
* You can approve a connection request on the Mac.

## Steps [#steps]

1. On the Mac, open **Settings → Devices**.

2. If **Browser and device access** is off, choose **Enable browser and device access**, then confirm **Restart and turn on**.

   Zuse restarts. Running agents stop during this restart, so finish or pause important work first.

3. On iPhone, open **Settings → Connect to a nearby Mac**.

4. Choose the Mac when it appears.

   If Zuse finds exactly one Mac, it may start the connection automatically. The phone then shows **Approve on your Mac** and a short safety phrase.

5. On the Mac, wait for **Is this you trying to connect?**.

6. Compare the safety phrase and device identifier on both screens. Choose **Allow** only when they match.

   Choose **Not now** to deny this attempt. Choose **Block device** when you do not recognize the phone.

## Verification [#verification]

The phone returns to the inbox after approval. Confirm that:

* the Mac's projects and chats appear;
* the connection state changes to **Connected**; and
* the phone appears under **Settings → Devices → Connected devices** on the Mac.

Open an existing chat to verify its latest messages load. You do not need to start an agent just to test the connection.

## Troubleshooting and recovery [#troubleshooting-and-recovery]

### The Mac does not appear [#the-mac-does-not-appear]

Keep Zuse open, confirm local access is on, and allow **Local Network** access for Zuse in iPhone Settings. If discovery still fails, choose **Scan QR instead** on iPhone, then choose **Show mobile QR** on the Mac.

### The request expires [#the-request-expires]

Start a new attempt. Pairing codes and requests are intentionally short-lived; an expired code cannot be reused.

### The safety phrase or encrypted identity does not match [#the-safety-phrase-or-encrypted-identity-does-not-match]

Do not approve the request. Cancel it, move both devices to a trusted network, and start again.

### The phone was previously revoked [#the-phone-was-previously-revoked]

Create a new pairing request and approve it on the Mac. A revoked credential cannot reconnect by retrying alone.
